We know that in high school, life can get pretty stressful. The Asian American Wellness Program (AAWP) is a
program designed to build upon your personal strengths to help you handle the stressful and sometimes
tough situations you may face.
At the beginning of the program, you will be matched with a Stanford student who will be your big sib throughout the program.
This is a unique opportunity to learn skills that are not taught in high school, while building a relationship with a Stanford student who was in your shoes not too long ago!
Will participating in this program help me get into Stanford?
No, but we will equip you with the tools necessary to better handle stress, which will prepare you for a successful future.
Do I have to be Asian-American in order to participate in this program?
This program is structured to address the common issues and sources of stress Asian-Americans face such as parental pressure and the model minority stereotype, but if these are also applicable to you, please apply! Being an Asian-American is not a requirement to join this program.
What are the requirements that student applicants must fulfill?
We are simply looking for students who possess an eagerness to participate and who would most benefit from this program. As mentioned, there are no ethnic or other background requirements.
What are the benefits of participating in the Asian-American Wellness Program?
We provide a safe space and lots of good food in which high school students such as yourself can de-stress and learn steps to healthier living through the guidance of current college students. Not only will you pick up useful skills, but you will also make lasting friendships within the group.
What is the time commitment for this program?
Our weekly meetups are 2 hours long and are held after school in the late afternoon to early evening. In addition, we hold one or two occassional fun events for the sibs.
Great! So how do I apply?
What should I do if I have to miss a meetup?
Please email us at least 48 hours in advance at firstname.lastname@example.org with your name and the reason for your intended absence.
If you have any additional questions, please feel free to email us!
